How was Christmas celebrated in the old days? What was a Christmas gift really, and how did our Swedish Santa Claus come to be? You’ll find out during this cozy Christmas tour in the light of lanterns.
Where: The open-air museum Hägnan.
Language: English.
Duration: The tour takes approximately one hour and starts outside the Country Store (the white house at the open-air museum)
The Christmas spirit is at its peak as we visit the open-air museum’s farms and outbuildings. During the walk, we share stories about old Swedish Christmas traditions and northern folklore. Why was it important to have Christmas crosses in the windows, and why were some preparations carried out in the barn? How is our modern Santa Claus connected to the Christmas goat, the grumpy household gnome, and the generous Bishop Nicholas?
Please note that Santa Claus is busy during this time of year, so you will not meet him during the tour. But there will be plenty of other fun and interesting things to enjoy!
