The stable at Hägnan was probably built in the 19th Century and has two stalls and a spacious feed shed. The protruding roof was intended to protect the harnesses that hang on wooden hooks along the front wall from weather and wind.

Having a separate stable, detached from the byre, marks the special status and importance of the horse among the animals on the farm. The stable was often adjacent to the byre, and on poorer farms the horse often had a stall beside the cows in the byre. Crofters who did not own a horse had to borrow one for heavier work in exchange for doing day jobs for the horse owner.
