Accessibility

Here we have listed some of the things that can facilitate your visit to the World Heritage Gammelstad Church Town and the open-air museum Hägnan.

Parking

At the open-air museum Hägnan there are two parking spaces reserved for visitors with disability permits, these are located at the parking lot by the end of Gamla Hamngatan. In the World Heritage Gammelstad Church Town there are two parking spaces located by the church.

Toilets

Adapted toilets are available in the Country Store, Kafé Fägnan, Gårdshuset (to the left of Kafé Fägnan), Nederluleå church, the toilet building at Skolgränd (behind the old Parish Hall), the toilet building at Rutviksvägen (behind Arctic Collection) and at the Visitor Center in Gammelstad Church Town. Requires help with doors. Remember to check the opening hours before your visit to Gammelstad.

In the area

The open-air museum Hägnan and Gammelstad Church Town are accessible for walkers, wheelchairs, mobility scooters and prams. However, the outdoor surface is uneven and in difficult weather conditions accessibility can be limited.

In the buildings

At the open-air museum Hägnan and in Gammelstad Church Town, there are sensitive buildings and environments that cannot be fully adapted in a desirable way.

At Hägnan the entrances to Storgården and Peri-Hanscha are equipped with stair railings. Fixed wheelchair ramps are available to the Country Store, Sinksundsstugan, Gårdshuset, Storgården (the large farmhouse), Peri-Hanscha and Kafé Fägnan. The Round Barn and the Long Barn are accessible from ground level. Other buildings are unfortunately difficult to access with wheelchairs or similar, due to stairs and high thresholds.

The exhibition at the Visitor Center in Gammelstad church town can be reached by elevator, notify the staff on site if you wish to use it. There are handrails in the staircase leading up to the exhibition. The reception area and the souvenir shop are available at ground level. The exhibition cottage has a detachable ramp that can be used to facilitate entry and exit, and Nederluleå Church is accessible at ground level via the side entrance by the bell tower.

Entrance

Companions and personal assistants in the company of paying guests have free admission to events and activities that are subject to a fee.

Allergy

The open-air museum Hägnan has several historic buildings. In the summer there are vegetation and animals on and around the museum area. In the farmhouses, we often decorate with potted plants and wild plants.
