Traditional haymaking

Where: The open-air museum Hägnan.
When: July 7-10, 2026.
Time: Approx. 12 PM-3 PM.

Come and help out with the traditional haymaking at Hägnan, a both fun and educational outdoor activity. No prior knowledge is necessary, we will teach you everything you need to know about the craft when you get here.

Haymaking on the meadows were an important part of the agricultural tradition. The winter feed produced by the meadow determined how many animals that could be housed over the winter. This in turn gave manure to the fields, where the food was grown. Too little hay could thus mean starvation, while a good supply of winter feed for the animals could in turn provide plenty of food for humans.

Please note that the activity is weather dependent and can be moved to another week in case of bad weather.
