FAQ for the Christmas market 2025

The market is open 12 PM-4 PM, December 6-7.

To pre-purchase your ticket via our website costs 50 SEK per person, tickets sold by the entrance is subject to availability and cost 70 SEK per person. Free for children under the age of 18. Please note that we have a limited number of tickets, therefore we recommend you to buy your ticket in good time before the event. The pre-purchase closes the day prior to each market day or earlier if we're sold out. The tickets are non-refundable.

Tickets by the entrance will only be sold if we have capacity for more visitors. You can pay with card, cash or Swish.

Entry to an old-fashioned Christmas market with carefully selected market vendors, free fairytale walks for children, performances, theatre, the opportunity to meet Santa and Mrs Claus, Santa's reindeer, the wise mother Hulda, the Christmas goat and more.

Because we have limited space on the area. We want our visitors and market vendors to have a pleasant and qualitative market experience.

All market vendors choose their own payment methods, therefore the payment methods may vary from vendor to vendor. The majority uses the Swedish payment system Swish but some also accept cash and credit card.

The nearest ATM is located at Stadsö Centrum, an approx. 20 minutes walk from Gammelstad Church Town. There are no ATM:s in the church town nor at the market area.

Yes, you can take bus number 9 (Luleå Lokaltrafik) all the way to the church town. During the market weekend the bus stops at "Sandåkersvägen". You can also take bus number 1 or 2 to "Stadsö Centrum" but from there it's a 20 min walk to get to the market area.

Hägnan has several parking lots with parking attendants close to the market area. Due to the large number of visitors we recommend you to take the local bus if possible. During the market weekend there is also an extra parking lot by the former rescue service building in Gammelstad, approx. a 10 minutes walk from the market area.

The parking fee is 40 SEK per vehicle if you park at any of our attended parking lots. The fee goes the association that manages the parking.

We need parking attendants to control where our visitors park, so we can fit as many as possible. They also ensure free passage for emergency vehicles in case of an accident. The proceeds go the associations that manages the parking.

There are four parking spaces for the disabled at the open-air museum Hägnan during the market weekend, these are located at the parking lot behind Kafé Fägnan, with entry from Rutviksvägen.

Leashed dogs are allowed outdoors but not in any of our buildings.

Smoking is not allowed indoors, in connection to any of our buildings, activities or visitors.

Kafé Fägnan sells hot beverages, pastries and some light meal options in the café and at some market stalls on the outdoor area.

We have several toilets for visitors during the market. They can be found around Gårdshuset, in Gårdshuset, in the cottage to the left of Gårdshuset, the Country Store and Kafé Fägnan.

Changing tables can be found in the Country Store, Kafé Fägnan, Gårdshuset and the cottage to the left of Gårdshuset.

You can warm up in Gårdshuset if needed. The majority of the market takes place outdoors so remember to dress warmly.

No, we don't offer that kind of service during the market weekend.

The fairytale walk starts outside of Storgården (the large farmhouse) at 1 PM and 2 PM.

The wise old lady "mother Hulda" can be found in the croft, where she offers good advice to visitors and display how Christmas was celebrated in a poorer environment back in the days.

Santa and mrs Claus can be find outside of the Peri-Hanscha farmhouse, where they greet children and collect wish lists. Santa's reindeer are mingling around the market area.

The Christmas horses and the pigs are located in the pastures by the road leading down to the croft.

The area is accessible for strollers and wheelchairs but in bad weather conditions the accessibility can be limited. We have ramps to our main buildings but not all of our outbuildings.

We have adjusted the placement of our market stalls and our activities to create a better flow and reduced the number of tickets to the market.

The defibrillator is located in Gårdshuset, to the left of Kafé Fägnan.
