The crofts were often placed in the outskirts of the villages and were owned by poor smallholders who leased a piece of land from a landowner in the area, in exchange for day labour.
Here you can experience the everyday life in a simple 18th Century environment. Hägnan's croft was originally from a farmstead in Porsnäs, where it acted a small residence building. During the 1770s, the house was moved to Lakafors, where it came to serve as a crofter’s cottage. The building consists of three parts: a one-room dwelling, a dairy and a vestibule with an adjoining chamber. This type of building is now used mainly for summer pasture huts, but was common in Sweden in olden times.
