Here in the large farmhouse, visitors can experience everyday life on a prosperous farm from the 1880s. It was an era when the agricultural society collided with the beginning of industrialism, and this is evident in the furnishings of the farmhouse.

Large farmhouses like this were common in the Norrbotten countryside and were owned by well-to-do farmers with their own forests and land. The precise year of construction of the large farmhouse is not known, but it was probably built in the 17th or 18th Century as a double cottage with a kitchen, a parlour, a foyer, and a small chamber off the foyer. The unfurnished attic, as well as the gable chambers, were built in the late 19th Century as a result of the boom that followed the rise of the sawmill industry. Although the upper floor was not used, its mere existence was a status symbol.

The floorplan of the large farmhouse is characteristic of the so-called “Norrbotten farmhouse”. The large farmhouse at Hägnan is originally from Lillpite in Piteå Parish.
